I am starting to get chippy seams from my Z wheels. I was running P1 and P2 initially and was pretty happy with the results.
Now, not so much so I have been running our 40mm Z wheels, which have to be changed out on the tool rack and are kinda a PITA.
What is the process to diagnose/resolve the problem with the regular Z's?

Re: Z bits getting chippy
Most likely they have worn and need adjustment....I raise and lower mine so that I dont get a ridge in them rendering them useless......
I would take a scrap, make 3 programs from the same setup.....1 with finger bit full length....1 with pos 1 3/4 of the way and when with pos 2 half of the way.....
Then you can feel with your finger what is going on and make the necessary adjustments.....Either your finger bit is too far in, or the z's are too far out, or you have worn a ridge in them.

It's a fine line to walk. Clean them up first and recali. Also is it on all the stones you process or just some more than others?

Re: Z bits getting chippy
We were getting the same issue FAST with our Z wheels. We have the room on our tool rack, so we put in 3 bits that are seam only. They are slow speed (old school) and then we have high speed that we use on our flat polish edges. It has made the apple coring issue less of an issue b/c the amount of wear on them is minimal.

Dustin, the last two jobs. Black pearl and NVG. I could feel the P1 putting the chips in the stone. Feeling out front of it on the finger bit cut, then behind it on the tooled edge.
Eric is going to come by Wed and help me take a look at them. We'll see what we can figure out.

Cool Eric will get you strait!
I run my finger bit infront of my seams on Euros all the time and get no chips. It is all in the set up and dress. Again it can be a fine line, but Eric will show you an easy way to make it work.

Re: Z bits getting chippy
Chris - I use 50, 100, 200 from Granquartz all 25mm diameter 1/2 gas vac brazed. They last me about 700meters and cost less then $100 each. I run them at 1meter/min and only use them for my seams. They work great. As soon as I start seeing poor seams I replace all 3 positions. Typically what I seem when a tool wears is not chipping but actually the seam edge not being a perfectly straight line. It is as though the tools stop cutting and actually push there way around the edge.

Thanks Eric.
Added a little overmaterial to the P1 and it helped a lot.

Chris- Its easy enough to use oscillation on the bit in Easy Stone - BUT are people having success with it? Let me know if you need help with it?
